I’m a fan of Arctic Fox hair dye products – they are awesome, have great prices, and the color variety is amazing.
But how do you use it?! If you are a newbie, worry not – we all have been there at one point or another.
In this guide, I will quickly show you how to use Arctic Fox hair dye (instructions and step-by-step process in 2023).
Quick Answer
To use Arctic Fox hair dye, start by pre-lightening your hair if necessary and thoroughly shampooing and drying your hair. Then, put on gloves and apply the hair dye evenly with a brush, leaving it on for 30-40 minutes before washing it out with shampoo only. Check the final result and apply more dye if needed, then dry your hair and enjoy your new color!
What to Know Before Using Arctic Fox [Common Questions]
Before we jump onto the process of dyeing your hair with Arctic Fox, let’s go over the most common questions that you might have.
First of all, what kind of hair dye is Arctic Fox? It’s a semi-permanent hair dye!
How long does Arctic Fox last? It lasts between 3 and 6 weeks, it can even last more depending on your hair and other factors (check out our related guide to learn more).
That being said, let’s learn the basics before using Arctic Fox on your beautiful hair.
Can I Use Arctic Fox Every Week?
You might, but it’s not advisable. I mean, you would have to take it all out of your hair (learn how to remove Arctic Fox here) and start the process all over again, unless you want to reaffirm the color on your hair.
Overall, my recommendation would be to avoid using it every single week (and this goes for all hair dye products out there, not only Arctic Fox).
Can I Apply Arctic Fox Twice?
Yes, you can apply Arctic Fox twice without problems. You can use only Arctic Fox Hair Dyes, and the results would be awesome. There’s nothing wrong with using Arctic Fox over and over again, as long as you don’t do it every single week.
Is One Bottle of Arctic Fox Enough?
It depends. For me, one bottle did the trick, but you might need more than one. It depends on how long your hair is and other factors.
If you have long hair, get two bottles of Arctic Fox. If your hair is short enough, one bottle will be enough.
Can I Put Arctic Fox on Dirty Hair?
Yes! In fact, on a scale from 1 to 10, I recommend that your hair is 6 “dirty” before dyeing (how dirty can your hair be to dye it?).
So yes, your hair does not need to be extremely clean to apply Arctic Fox.
Is It Correct to Dilute Arctic Fox With Conditioner?
It highly depends – for instance, I used Arctic Fox Space Cowgirl, and I didn’t want to soften the color.
Therefore, I didn’t mix it with conditioner. Only mix Arctic Fox with conditioner if you want a lighter color than the one advertised on the recipient.
If you want to achieve great results based on the color of the bottle, then do not dilute Arctic Fox with conditioner.
How to Use Arctic Fox Hair Dye [Instructions & Steps]
I don’t want to extend myself too much, so I’ll go straight to the point. Arctic Fox has their own instructions on how to use their hair dye, but I’m going to talk from my personal experience.
I recently applied Arctic Fox Space Cowgirl (and I did an awesome Arctic Fox Space Cowgirl Review that you can read here), and this is how I applied the product (full instructions).
Step 1: Pre-lighten Your Hair if Needed
Since my natural hair is kind of dark, I had to pre-lighten it to ensure that the color would show up properly. So, I used a bleach kit to lighten my hair to a light blonde shade.
Step 2: Shampoo and Dry Hair Thoroughly
I started off by making sure my hair was squeaky clean and dry before applying the dye. Arctic Fox recommends only using shampoo – do not use conditioner at all! In fact, sometimes you can dye your hair even if it’s a little bit dirty.
Step 3: Wear Gloves and Put Arctic Fox in a Bowl
Next, I put on some gloves to protect my hands from staining and poured the Arctic Fox Space Cowgirl hair dye into a bowl.
You need a brush to dye your hair with Arctic Fox if you want to achieve more consistent and beautiful results.
Step 4: Apply Arctic Fox Hair Dye Color With a Brush
Using a brush, I applied the hair dye evenly to my hair, starting at the roots and working my way down to the ends. The dye had a nice creamy consistency that made it easy to apply.
It also smells really good, and it feels awesome in your hair. Remember that I’m talking about Space Cowgirl!
Step 5: Leave the Color for 30 to 40 Minutes
After applying the dye, I let it sit for about 40 minutes to allow the color to fully develop. I used this time to catch up on my favorite shows (I love The Office!, look at this picture of my hair dye and my mug!).
Step 6: Wash Your Hair Only With Shampoo
Once the time was up, I washed my hair with shampoo only (no conditioner) to rinse out the dye until the water ran clear. Now, you must check the final result. In case you need more product, apply it to your hair.
Otherwise, dry it out, and that would be it.
Step 7: Rock Your New Hair Dye Color With Arctic Fox!
And voila! I was left with a beautiful and unique shade of green that made me feel like a space cowgirl. The best part? Arctic Fox is so nourishing that my hair felt soft and healthy, even after dyeing it twice in one day. I can’t wait to show off my new hair color and see what other fun shades I can experiment with next!

FAQ
Do I Wash Arctic Fox With Cold Water?
Yes! To maintain the vibrancy and longevity of your Arctic Fox color, it’s best to rinse with cold water after dyeing. Hot water can cause the color to fade more quickly, and you might not want this.
How Long Will Arctic Fox Last?
If applied correctly, Arctic Fox lasts between 2 and 6 weeks. In my case, it lasted 5 weeks, but if you wash your hair pretty often, then it can last only 2 or 3 weeks.
